General Manager

Purpose of the Position
- The Port General Manager holds the overall responsibility for the effective operation management and profit making results of the company. The Port General Manager, is responsible for the managing of all the berthing bookings and associated planning and to ensure that the terminals and other port infrastructure are available for the safe berthing of vessels and the safe and efficient embarkation and disembarkation of passengers and/or crew.
Core Duties
- Responsible for planning how to run the business daily and making sure this negotiated plan with the Board of Directors is followed, as part of a business strategy for the port
- Works to achieve certain targets and standards, relating to efficiency, performance, generating business and profits, and to maintaining quality and safety throughout the workplace
- Reporting to the board members / shareholders on the port’s plans and performance
- Recruits and develops members of the port management team, to assist in running the port
- Directing functions and performance – the Port Director oversees the functions and performance of their port (or ports), via the port management team.
- The planning and scheduling of berthing operations for all types of vessels using the terminal and to ensure this information is submitted on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis, as is required.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Diploma or equivalent in Operations Management. In the absence of the respective qualifications, a minimum of 10-year relevant work experience, of which 5 years in a management position.
- Technical awareness in terms of maritime environment
- Excellent coordination and communication skills
- Excellent understanding of people management
- Experience in leading teams and sharing expertise (i.e. coaching, mentoring or training).
- Confident and self-motivated with agile leadership skills.
- Good command in English and French
