POSITION DESCRIPTION
The English Language Program Manager is responsible for the overall management and supervision of English Language activities at Amideast/Tunisia. This includes oversight over English Language (EL) programming in the Tunis, Lac 2, and Sousse. This is a senior level position, involving supervision of several employees and responsibility for Amideast/Tunisia’s EL portfolio. The EL Manager must ensure a consistent quality of instruction and programming, as well as pay close attention to the increased profitability of EL activities. The EL Manager is responsible for ensuring the department’s reporting requirements and all budgeting, including plans for future expansion.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and implements an annual EL strategic business plan based on market demand, targeted customer needs, and program resources
- Sets annual goals, both programmatic and financial, for EL program based on past successes, lessons learned, and future opportunities
- Supervises all core department staff, ensuring a well-functioning EL department
- Leads a planning process for program development and ongoing improvement guided by the strategic plan and program evaluation
- Coordinates the planning of new EL integrated solutions by working closely with the professional training, testing, and advising departments
- Develops new business proposals for EL, contributing to a responsive technical component and an appropriate budget in coordination with the Contracts Manager
- Responsible for assisting the CD in preparing the EL portion of the office annual budget
- Strategizes with the CD regarding the cost of courses, taking into account price points, break-even points, and contributions to net profit
- Communicates an EL strategy, program priorities, and ongoing issues regularly with the CD and key staff, particularly with the sub-offices. This should include monthly visits to Sousse
- Oversees a comprehensive electronic filing system for the department, including curricular, registration, business development, marketing, and staffing issues
Marketing & Client Relations
- Ensures that an appropriate plan for outreach and marketing of the EL program is in place for increasing awareness of EL products and services.
- Meets and communicates with current and potential clients/organizations regularly about maintaining, expanding, and/or adding EL products and services.
Instructional Design & Materials
- Ensures that each EL program or course has a curriculum with goals, materials, assessment, and other required resources and is shared with the Regional EL Director.
- Ensure that EL textbooks are up-to-date, appropriate, and relevant for different student populations at Amideast/Tunisia.
- Ensures that EL courses adhere to principles of adult or young learner language acquisition within a communicative approach.
- Selects materials and resources that engage learners as active participants, provide a variety of classroom activities, and integrate the four skills.
- Set up/ Ensure a comprehensive assessment plan that includes an appropriate placement test and a variety of in-course assessment procedures linked to course goals and objectives.
- Ensure incorporation of Educational technology into EL courses as appropriate based on goals, and as feasible, based on available resources.
Teacher Recruitment & Support
- Lead recruitment and hiring of qualified EL teachers in coordination with the Lead Teacher in accordance with forecasted needs.
- Determines appropriate pay scales for EL teachers based on qualifications and local market.
- Plans teaching assignments by matching teacher skills and background to specific courses and the needs of certain groups, as feasible.
- Develops and implements a learning and professional development plan for all EL teachers based on performance needs, teacher evaluations, and EL trends.
- Incorporates self-assessment and peer mentoring into a professional development plan, leveraging the expertise of experienced Amideast teachers.
- Organizes and chairs regular teacher meetings for information sharing, idea exchange, and course planning.
- Observes and evaluates teachers regularly in a supportive, developmental way, and discusses evaluation results with teachers.
- Gathers teacher feedback regularly as part of an ongoing process of considering program changes and improvements.
Program Delivery & Student Support
- Ensures proper implementation of EL students and placement procedures.
- Ensures that students are provided with adequate orientation to the program, policies and regulations, and course requirements – including in written form.
- Implements a system for students to lodge complaints and for staff to follow up regarding complaints and related issues.
- Implements appropriate program evaluation methods and tools that include regular, end-of-course and end-of-program customer satisfaction evaluation.
- Provides effective means for regularly capturing student feedback and increasing student retention through improved client relations.
- Ensures that evaluation results are analyzed and that related recommendations are used regularly in program planning and development.
- Incorporates an appropriate program evaluation component into new EL proposals and initiatives.
- Provides regular updates about the EL program for internal needs, external clients, as well as the Amideast website and other marketing materials.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited intuition in the field of education.
- A minimum of 10 years relevant work experience in education, teaching and program management
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proven success in team leadership, performance management and staff development
- Flexible and able to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to supervise and manage the English Language Department teaching staff.
- An entrepreneurial approach to all responsibilities.
- An in-depth knowledge of the government, education, and corporate sectors of the Tunisian economy.
- French and Tunisian Arabic at an advanced level
Preferred
- MA Degree from an accredited intuition in the field of education
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent in this position will work in a professional office environment and will utilize the following equipment when working from the corporate office or remote home office (either on a full time, temporary, or hybrid basis).
