2020 Foreign National Student Intern Program (FNSIP) Vacancy Announcement

The U.S. Embassy in Tunis will be hosting the Summer 2020 Foreign National Student Intern Program (FNSIP).  This Program provides an excellent opportunity for local students to gain valuable work experience in a diplomatic environment.

  This is NOT an offer of permanent employment;

there will be no benefits or compensation, or future employment rights attached to these internships.

Location:

  • Students will be offered an internship at the U.S. Embassy in Tunis.

Duties:

  • Intern duties may vary according to the functional section of assignment (i.e. Public Diplomacy, Management, etc.).

Eligibility Requirements for Local Students:

To be eligible for the FNSIP, students MUST MEET ALL the following criteria:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old at the time of participation in the program.
  2. Must be either citizens or permanent legal residents of Tunisia.
  3. Must have been enrolled full-time in university as undergraduate or postgraduate students at the time the program begins.
  4. Must be returning to university studies upon completion of the internship.
  5. Must be in good academic standing.
  6. Must be available to begin the internship in June 2020.  Interns usually serve for approximately 10 – 12 weeks during the summer.
  7. Must be available to work, at least, 20-30-hours a week, 4 to 6 hours per day.
  8. Must possess computer skills with a background in Excel, Word, and other Microsoft products required.

Qualifications: 

The Embassy will consider students studying at local universities with a broad range of majors, such as humanities and arts, law, social sciences, business or economics, public administration, finance, accounting, journalism, political science, computer science as well as majors identified with international affairs.

The U.S. Mission will also consider hiring issues such as conflict of interest, nepotism, residency status, and whether the internship applicant has a work permit.

Additional Requirements for Hosting Sections:

1.- Public Affairs / Alumni Affairs:

    • Assist the Alumni Coordinator in organizing debriefing programs for exchange program participants.
    • Work with the Alumni Coordinator and Grants Officer Representatives (GORS) to conduct surveys and interviews with PAS program partners and participants to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of PAS programs.
    • Collect data points on broad categories of various PAS programs such as numbers of participants, areas of residence, and educational backgrounds of participants.
    • Data entry related to new exchange program participants.

2.- Public Affairs/ Press Office:

    • Assist PAS staff in preparing the daily media reaction report. Translate news articles from French and Arabic into English for use in the daily press summary.
    • Monitor select Tunisian media outlets for breaking news. Draft written reports for Public Affairs staff as needed.
    • Assist PAS staff in preparing press briefings for the front office
    • Prepare subtitles in Arabic and English for videos produced for US Embassy social media properties

3.- Health Unit/Nurse:

    • Develop a sustainable wellness program for the US Embassy Community. This would incorporate work/life balance, health protection (ex. Increase flu vaccination rates), and health promotion (ex. Fitness events).
    • Ability to learn US standards of nursing practice through observation.

  2. Official transcripts illustrating good academic standing (these documents do not need to be translated into English).
  3. Written permission from the education institution.

No applications will be accepted after this date.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  Only the highest-ranking applications will be selected for an interview.
